Free homeschool report card template
A homeschool report card sums up a term on one page: each subject with its grade and a word on how it went, the days of school, and your signature as the teacher. Type your child's subjects and grades in here, as letter grades, E/S/N/U marks or 4 to 1, and download a PDF to print, keep in your portfolio or send to Grandma. Free, no account.

How it works
Add your child and the year
Their name and grade, the school year, your homeschool and your name as the teacher. Choose quarters, trimesters or semesters, and how you grade.
Grade each subject
Pick subjects from the suggestions or type your own, give each term a grade and add a short comment. The final grade works itself out once every term is graded, or choose your own.
Print, sign, keep
Download the one-page PDF, print it at 100% and sign it. What you type stays in this browser, so next quarter you only add the new grades.
What's on the report card
- Your child's name, grade and school year at the top, with your homeschool's name
- Up to 10 subjects, each with a grade per quarter, trimester or semester, a final grade and a comment
- Letter grades (A to F), E/S/N/U marks or 4 to 1 standards marks, with the key printed
- Days present and absent each term, added up for the year
- A box for your comments on the term, ruled for more by hand
- A line to sign and date as the teacher
- Five colors, on one page of US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) or A4

Why make a report card for homeschool?
Nobody hands you one, so it's easy to skip. But a report card a few times a year gives your child something to be proud of, gives you a moment to see what's working, and builds a record for your portfolio.
A few states ask for more than that. According to HSLDA, Kentucky asks homeschools for report cards every six to nine weeks, and several states ask for a yearly progress report or evaluation, which is easier to write from a stack of report cards. Check what your state asks for on HSLDA's legal pages.
Letter grades or marks?
Letter grades suit older children and anything you'll later put on a transcript. For younger children many families use E (excellent), S (satisfactory), N (needs improvement) and U, or a 4 to 1 scale that says how far along a skill is. Pick the one you'll actually use: the key on the page says what the marks mean.
What to write in the comments
One specific thing per subject is plenty: what they can do now that they couldn't before, a book or project they loved, and what comes next. Keep the comments box for effort, habits and the moment of the term you want to remember.
Questions
- Is the homeschool report card template free?
- Yes. Fill it in, preview it and download the PDF as often as you like, with no account. What you type is saved in this browser, so next term you only add the new grades. The email signup is optional.
- How do I make a homeschool report card?
- Choose quarters, trimesters or semesters and how you grade, list the subjects you teach and give each a grade for the term with a short comment. Add the days of school and a few words on the term, then sign it. This template lays it out and adds up the attendance and the final grades for you.
- Do homeschoolers need report cards?
- Most states don't ask for them, according to HSLDA's state summaries, but some ask for progress reports, evaluations or a portfolio, and Kentucky asks for report cards every six to nine weeks. Check your state on HSLDA's legal pages. Many families make them anyway, as a record and a small celebration.
- How is the final grade worked out?
- Once every term has a grade, the final is the grade nearest their average, each term counting the same and a tie going to the higher grade: A and B+ give A−. Before that the final box stays empty, and you can always pick the final grade yourself.
- Can I use it for kindergarten and the early grades?
- Yes. Choose E/S/N/U or 4 to 1 marks, type subjects like Phonics, Handwriting or Nature Study, and use the comments to say what your child can do now.
- Can I add next quarter's grades later?
- Yes. What you type is saved in this browser on this device. Come back, add the new grades and download the report card again. For a second child, download the first one, then change the name and grades.
