Cursive writing worksheet maker
A cursive writing worksheet is a page of handwriting lines with words or sentences to trace in joined cursive, then write alone. Type this week's spelling words, a sentence or a favourite quote, one per line, and the maker sets each one as a model, rows in light grey to trace and empty rows to write. On A4, free, no account.

How to make a cursive writing worksheet
Type the words
Up to ten lines: spelling words, a sentence from a book, a Bible verse or a quote for copywork. A long sentence breaks over two rows.
Choose the rows
How many rows to trace after each model, the row size (small suits sentences), cursive or print, and one of 15 designs or plain.
Print and practise
Download the PDF and print it at 100%. Your child traces the grey words, then writes each one alone on the empty rows.
What's on the worksheet
- Each word or sentence as a model in cursive, then rows to trace in light grey
- Empty rows to write it alone, on primary lines: top line, dashed midline, baseline
- Short words three times to a row; sentences across the row, or over two
- Your child's name at the top and a line for the date
- Large, medium or small rows, cursive or print, 15 designs or plain, A4 or US Letter

What to write
Spelling words are the classic: the week's list makes a page or two of practice that also learns the spelling. Sight words, the days of the week and the months work the same way.
For copywork, type a sentence from the book you're reading, a line of a poem, a Bible verse or a quote. Copying good sentences by hand is how many homeschoolers practise handwriting, spelling and punctuation at once.
And your child's own name and address: everyone needs a signature one day.
Is it the cursive taught at school?
Not quite, and it's worth knowing before you start. The letters here are traditional American cursive, set in Playwrite US Trad, a typeface made for teaching handwriting. Australian schools teach their state's own style: NSW Foundation Style, Victorian Modern Cursive, the Queensland Beginners Alphabet and others, which slope less, have plainer capitals and join some letters differently.
So use these pages as extra joined-writing practice at home, especially for older children, rather than as a copy of the school's letters. If your child is just learning to join, check a few letters with the teacher first.
How to use it
Start with the model: trace each word in the air together, saying the letters. Then trace the grey rows with a pencil, slowly, keeping the letters joined, and write alone on the empty rows. Ten minutes a day does more than an hour once a week.
Slip the page into a plastic sleeve and use a whiteboard marker, and one worksheet lasts all week.

Questions
- How do I make my own cursive worksheets?
- Type your words or sentences in the maker above, one per line, choose the rows and a design, and download the PDF. The first page downloads straight away; with more pages, we email you every page, free.
- Is this the cursive Australian schools teach?
- No: it's the traditional American cursive. Each state teaches its own style (NSW Foundation, Victorian Modern Cursive, Queensland Beginners and others), with plainer capitals and some different joins. These pages suit extra practice at home; check with the teacher if your child is just starting to join.
- Can I make cursive worksheets with spelling words?
- Yes. Type the week's spelling words, one per line. Each gets a model, rows to trace and a row to write, so ten words fill three or four pages.
- What age is cursive writing practice for?
- Most children learn to join their letters around Year 2 or 3, then practise sentences for a few years after. Medium rows suit beginners; small rows suit older children and longer sentences.
- Can I make print handwriting worksheets too?
- Yes. Choose print instead of cursive and the words come in upright print letters, with a dot where each letter starts, for kindy and the first years of school.
- Is it free, and does it print on A4?
- Yes and yes: it's free with no account, on A4 or US Letter. Print at 100% or “actual size” so the lines keep their size.
